French Stock Market rose after the French election

The French stock market closed on Monday higher due to strengthening of the finance, raw materials and industry sectors. The growth was possible thanks to the victory of Emmanuel Macron in the first round of the French presidential elections. Macron and Marine Le Pen will fight in the second round scheduled on May 7.

At the close on the Paris Stock Exchange, CAC 40 rose 4.14%, reaching a 52-week high, and SBF 120 index rose 3.97%.

The growth leaders among the components of the CAC 40 index were the shares of Credit Agricole SA (PA: CAGR), which rose 1,350 points (10.86%), closing at 13.780. Quotes of Societe Generale (PA: SOGN) increased by 4.57 p. (9.86%), to 50.85. BNP Paribas SA (PA: BNPP) share price rose 4.66 points (7.52%), closing at 66.66.

The worst performers were the shares of Lafargeholcim Ltd (PA: LHN), the price of which fell 0.90 points (1.66%), finishing the session at around 53.34. The shares of TechnipFMC PLC (PA: FTI) fell 0.28 points (0.93%), closing at the level of 29.75, while Pernod Ricard SA (PA: PERP) increased by 1.45 points (1, 26%) and completed the trades at the level of 116.45.

The leaders of growth among the components of SBF 120 were the shares of Credit Agricole SA (PA: CAGR), up 10.86%, Societe Generale (PA: SOGN), which gained 9.86, as well as the shares of Nexity (PA: NEXI), which rose 9.14%, to 48.95.

The worst performers were the shares of Genfit SA (PA: GNFT), down 1.77%, Lafargeholcim Ltd (PA: LHN) down 1.66%, and Zodiac Aerospace SA (PA: ZODC), down 0.15%.

On the Paris Stock Exchange, the number of advancing stocks (567) exceeded the number of those closed lower (82), while quotations of 73 shares remained virtually unchanged.

The volatility index CAC 40 VIX, which is formed on the basis of options trading on the CAC 40, fell 39.68% to 16.98.

Meanwhile, EUR/USD pair rose 1.16% to 1.0852, while EUR/GBP rose 1.46% to 0.8492.

Futures of the USD index fell 0.63% to 99.03.
